Click here to view the Evington Show Schedule for 2019. All residents of Evington and the surrounding neighbourhoods are invited to take part in the annual Show competitions. We offer a range of classes for people to enter; from photography through to flower ranging and our ever popular Scarecrow competition, so there is guaranteed to be something for everyone, of every age! For the Show rules please click here.
The fee to enter each class is 50p. Please return your completed entry form to the Show Clerk, K. Burns, 56 The Common, Evington, LE5 6EA (opposite the library). Entries close at 8.00pm on Wednesday 7th August 2019.
Alongside the ‘at Show’ classes, why not try your green-fingered luck in the Evington In Bloom gardening competitions: Best Front Garden, Best Container Garden and Best Community Garden categories. Judging for this will take place in July with the winners announced at the Fete in August. For full details please contact Helen Pettman.
On Fete and Show Day
On the day of the Fete and Show and Show, exhibitors will be welcomed into the Marquee for registration from 8.30am until 9.45am. Once registered, exhibitors will be given an exhibit card for each of the classes they enter, to be displayed next to their entry. Stewards will be available to assist on the day, and the marquee will be closed to exhibitors at 10.15am, ready for judging.
Judging and prizes
The judges will award points to the entries on show – 1st Prize – 3 points, 2nd prize – 2 points and 3rd prize – 1 point. The points will be added together in each section (e.g. Bakery) to find the Section Winner, who will then be awarded with a certificate, prize and/or cup.
The winners’ prizes and certificates will be handed out at a special ceremony during the Fete and Show, with any remaining prizes delivered to winners as soon as possible after the Show.
Alongside the class prizes the Fete and Show also recognises the endeavours of new exhibitors through the annual Novice Challenge Cup. This is awarded to the entrant who gains the most points in the adult novice classes and has not previously won 1st prize in any class in the section they entered.
Each year the judges award the Best in Show shield, for the best exhibit across the show. The individual judges will choose the best exhibit in their area of expertise by marking it with a gold sticker.
Please note: The Scarecrow competition is voted for by the public, on the day of the Fete and Show – so don’t forget to cast your vote!
The judges used for the Show competition are Horticultural Guild, WI Guild or academically qualified judges with no connection to any Fete and Show committee member. The judges are completely impartial and all entries are anonymous at the time of judging.
Hints for exhibitors
- Do allow plenty of time to stage your exhibits. Avoid that last minute rush by completing labels or mounting at home.
- Check carefully that you have the correct number of items, as required by the Schedule.
- Always take more exhibits to the Show than you will need, then choose the best just before you stage your entry.
- Remember condition and uniformity. Every exhibit should be in its most perfect phase and uniform in shape, size and condition.
- Remember your entries remain on display from before judging until 5pm. Please show your receipt ticket when collecting after 5pm.
